What is Barsoom?

Barsoom is a fictional name for the planet Mars. It first appeared in the novel A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912. Through a series of 11 books, the adventures of John Carter and friends are chronicled. Swords, proto-science, aliens (good and evil) and princesses. It is one of the best early examples of pulp and science fiction. It is possible you will appreciate Return to Barsoom more if you read at least the first ERB book, though it is not absolutely necessary.

The ERB books are available free online at barsoomian.net. Check their About page for iPhone-specific versions.
